Over the last decade Mysore has made giant strides in terms of industrial development. Today, Mysore is classified as a Tier-II city with the Government of Karnataka actively promoting it as a preferred investment destination.
Most industries in Mysore district are concentrated around the cities of Mysore and Nanjangud. The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has established six industrial zones in Mysore district to promote industrial development in the region.
Some of the major industries in the field of automobiles, heavy engineering machinery, medical equipment and electronics have their units here. Nestle, TVS Motors, Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation, Max Pharma, Bharat Earth Movers Ltd., Larsen and Toubro , South India Paper Mills, Vikrant Tyres are a few of the leading names to have already set up their manufacturing bases in Mysore.
Information Technology
Mysore is second only to Bangalore as an IT hub. A lot of Bangalore's acclaimed success spills into Mysore becasue of its proximity and easy access. Mysore's Software Technology Park (STP) inaugurated in 1998 by the Prime Minister of India, now has over 42 members generating over Rs. 850 crores.
The Government of India has classified Mysore as the number one Tier-II cities in the country for promotion of IT. With the infrastructure bottlenecks and the price of real estate in Bangalore skyrocketing IT Companies now find Mysore a much more attractive investment destination.
Infosys, Wipro Infotech, WeP, AT&T and Larsen and Toubro Infotech, have already commenced operating from Mysore. With 3 more IT SEZs coming up in the near future, Mysore is well on its way to becoming the next largest IT hub in Karnataka. |
