There are many famed institutions that contribute to the making of Mysore as an important educational hub. The University of Mysore, a public university, is the 6th oldest university in India and the oldest in the state of Karnataka. It caters to nearly 58,000 students, and has five constituent colleges, 122 affiliated colleges and 49 recognized research institutions. Courses include certifications, diploma, undergraduate and graduate courses in the faculties of arts, science and technology, law, education and commerce. The renowned university library is one of the largest university libraries in India having a collection of around 800,000 documents.
